Film Screening: Aquí y Allá (Mexico, 2012)
Winner of the top prize in the Critics’ Week Section of Cannes Festival.
Antonio Méndez Esparza’s directorial debut radiantly captures the complex homecoming of a loving father. After many years in New York, Pedro returns home to Guerrero, Mexico, to an overwhelmed wife and daughters he barely knows. Pedro struggles to secure a job in town and establish his place as the head of the household. Just as the family begins to regain their balance, Pedro and his wife Teresa are thrown into turmoil, facing a difficult pregnancy and the prospect of a new child. A rare and authentic look into the realities of Mexican life and bureaucracy.
