A talk by Jacques Pierre, Visiting Lecturer in French, Haitian Creole and Culture in the Department of Romance Studies at Duke University. Born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, Pierre studied Haitian Creole and French Applied Linguistics at the State University of Haiti. He trained as a lexicographer at Indiana University, worked for six years as Assistant Editor on the Haitian Creole-English Bilingual Dictionary (2007) published by the Creole Institute and received an M.A. in Translation Studies with a concentration in French and Haitian Creole and an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language, both for Kent State University. His book of Haitian Creole poetry, Omega, was published in 2012. Snacks and refreshments will be provided!
