Overview:

The Last Revolutionary is an intimate account of Cuba's leader, Fidel Castro, comprised largely of speeches and interviews. Produced by CBS reporter Dan Rather, the documentary features interviews with some of Fidel Castro's closest relatives (including his sister Juanita), friends and confidants, and with Fidel himself.

Pre-Viewing Activities:

· Research the Bay of Pigs invasion

· Research Batista’s rule and how the revolution began.

· Research the history of Cuba.

Post- Viewing Activities:

· What reason is given for Fidel Castro’s continuous control?

· Why are people scared to speak out in Cuba?

· Why do some say they like Castro?

· What does Juanita, Fidel’s sister, say about him?

· What did Castro mean by stating, “History will absolve me”?

Class Projects:

· Write an essay about how Fidel Castro came to power and the difference between how Cuba was in the early 1960’s and how it is today.

· Discuss how the American Embargo on Cuba has affected the country.
