John C. Chasteen
Professor of History
Chasteen has taught Latin American history at UNC since 1990. He has done field research in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, and Cuba. His undergraduate survey course is taken annually by over 100 students, and he participates frequently in outreach training for North Carolina school teachers. Chasteen is also a general editor of the Pitt Latin American Series. Chasteen has translated many books from Spanish and Portuguese, including works by some of Latin America’s most influential intellectuals and fiction writers.
