The movie is set in Cuba during the Special Period midway through the 1990s, at a time when a strict trade embargo was in force. The protagonists are a magnificent couple of septuagenarians who, as they hurtle towards the sunset of their lives, rediscover mutual love, and even a touch of passion.

On the island of Providencia, a group of women, in the face of financial need, have learned the art of fishing, a once masculine job. In the immensity of the sea, they have known how to find calm and have learned to feel pride in a trade they love.
