María Cristina García is the Howard A. Newman Professor of American Studies at Cornell University. Her most recent book, State of Disaster, examines the intersection between climate change-related extreme weather events and migration patterns from Central America. Her book also incorporates the history of U.S. migration policy and its new relationship with "climate refugees". Her talk will cover the connections between the history, current politics, and extreme weather events in Central America and its impact and relationship to the U.S.
