Associate Professor of Political Science

Cecilia Martinez-Gallardo received her B.A. from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City (1995), and both an MA and a Ph.D. from Columbia University (2005). Before arriving to Carolina, she taught Political Science at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Econimicas (CIDE) in Mexico. Her teaching and research interests are in Latin American political institutions, including government formation and change, cabinet politics, and patterns of executive accountability. She has contributed articles on these topics to Comparative Political Studies, Political Behavior, the American Journal of Political Science and the American Political Science Review. At Carolina, she has taught courses on the politics of Mexico, on the politics of Latin America, and on comparative political institutions.
