La Serna and Starn publish new book: The Shining Path

ISA warmly congratulates Miguel La Serna and Orin Starn for the publication of their new book, The Shining Path: Love, Madness, and Revolution in the Andes. New York: W.W. Norton, 2019. The Shining Path takes readers deep into the heart of the Shining Path insurgency, and the lives and country it nearly destroyed. It is the story of how a bookish professor and his two consecutive wives forged one of the world’s deadliest guerrilla insurgencies in the heart of the Andes, and of the women and men who risked their lives to stop them. We hear the voices of the mountain villagers who organized a fierce rural resistance, meet the irrepressible black activist María Elena Moyano, and trace the steps of Nobel Prize-winning novelist Mario Vargas Llosa, who each fought to end the bloodshed. The Shining Path is a deeply researched narrative history a little-remembered war that must never be forgotten.
